Fun in the sun at Southglade!Star Strike JFC U11s 10-0 David Lilley FC U11s
by Trevor Stocker
With the sun shining on the Southglade pitch, our Star Strike boys were energised ready for this Sunday morning friendly against David Lilley FC.
We warmed up with some passing exercises and stretching lead by Cameron, the starting 9 were, Cayleb in goal, Dylan, Riley and Cam (our Captain) in defence.
Midfield was Ezra in the centre, Teddy and Maxi on the wings and finally Jokubas and Kiran up front.
From the starting whistle, we pushed into their half with a cross into Teddy in the box, who struck it well, but it went into the arms of the keeper.
Pressure at their end of the pitch in these opening minutes in the box, led to an own goal!
This was quickly followed by a quick break through from Jokubas who found the back of the net to take us to 2-0.
Our quick and accurate passing really helped us keep in the opponent’s half, which built some frustration on their part, leading to a free kick on the edge of the box.
Ezra lined the ball up, with the boys taking positions but the strike went over the bar.
DLFC struggled to get the ball out of their half with multiple corners providing chances for Star Strike, and a great pass from Teddy to Kiran lined him up for a shot that went just wide much to the relief of their fans!
Another corner ball came off the post shortly after.
We used our previous strategy to intercept goal kicks and about 12 minutes in Teddy put this into action with a great pass to Maxi setting him up for his first goal of the match and taking the scores to 3-0.
A few substitutes before half time saw newcomer Thevon come on to the pitch, he brought some further excitement into the midfield action with a debut goal coming his way just moments after!
What a great start to his contribution to the team.
We continued to dominate the match, with Ezra taking an awesome strike from outside the box, but on this occasion coming off the crossbar with a bang!
As we got into the first half a break from DLFC saw them getting into our box resulting in a clash and foul on Ezra, pausing the game for a short while.
As the frustration grew for DLFC we saw a few clumsy tackles during the match.
With the half time whistle approaching though we were all over them, shots deflected from Kiran, runs through from Thevon and Maxi, Teddy making a great pass into the box under pressure.
Finally, though the next goal came from Maxi, taking us to 5-0 at half time.
We started the second half with 8 players (to give the other side an opportunity to regroup) but we continued to dominate.
Both sides had further opportunities from set plays at Corners (maybe something for us to practice over the summer?)
DLFC had a few chances with one off the post and one over the cross bar.
Our second newcomer to the match saw Max join our defence at centre back, he made some awesome tackles helping to keep DLFC pinned in their half.
Daniel and Ryan also contributing in the second half, although Daniel did sustain an injury with a clumsy tackle.
Maxi continued to impress on the day though and delighted the crowd with his third goal taking us to 6 – 0.
As we returned to 9 players on the pitch at the end of the second half, the team continued to make great runs and shots on goal, we saw excellent goals from Jokubas,
two more from Kiran, and a 4th from Maxi, taking us to 10-0 at full time!
Prior to the match I challenged Cayleb to keep a clear sheet today and we certainly achieved that!
Great defensive work led by Cameron, saw Riley, Dylan and Max all making decisive tackles.
A real team effort delivered a great win today!Man of the match was nominated by Cayleb, choosing Maxi with his four goals and great all-round performance, making him Star Strike’s second highest scorer of the season so far!
Our end of season tournament is on Saturday May 20th, it would be great to see as many of you there as possible!
